There are two basic methods in which we identify dyslexia: Complete Diagnostic Evaluation and Evaluation and Screening. Below is a comparison of the two methods.
| Complete Diagnostic Evaluation | Evaluation and Screening | |
| What is Involved? |
|
60-90 minute evaluation/screening |
| What is the Difference? | The outcome of this testing will be a 35-40 page report written in easy-to-understand language, describing the tests and their results, as well as the specific classroom accommodations that this student needs in order to be successful in the classroom. This testing process provides legal classification of the dyslexia diagnosis. |
The outcome of this evaluation will identify whether or not the client's difficulties are due to dyslexia and whether or not the individual is ready for an Orton-Gillingham tutoring system or will need remedial work first. This identification process DOES NOT provide legal classification of dyslexia, but will determine whether or not dyslexia is present. |
| When is it Needed? | This approach is required when classroom accommodations are needed in public schools, such as when writing an IEP or 504 plan. | If classroom accommodations are not needed, or if the school will use classroom accommodations without proof of dyslexia, the evaluation process will be sufficient to start on the correct path. |
| Time Investment: | 8-12 hours: half for student, half for parent | 90 minutes for student and parent participating |
| Cost: | $3,000.00 | $250.00 |
